Sandra McMurray
1944-09-08 2012-10-22Sandra M. MCMurray, age 68, passed away on October 22, 2012 at home following a valiant fight against Ovarian Cancer. She was born September 8, 1944 in Highland Park, Michigan. She has resided in Pleasant Ridge, MIchigan for the past 35 years. Sandy received her Master\'s of Education from Wayne State University after obtaining her Bachelor\'s Degree from Michigan State University. She went on to be a teacher in the Madison Heights District for 33 years, retiring in 2008. She loved to read, spend summers in Traverse City, Michigan and spend time with her daughter, and especially her granddaughter Carlie. After retirement, Sandy kept busy with volunteer work and was passionate about the Ferndale Food Pantry and Royal Oak Public Library. She was also instrumental in ensuring that her mother could remain independent and in her own home. Sandra was the beloved daughter of the late Robert M. Boltwood and Hazel Boltwood; Cherished wife of 46 years to Robert O. McMurray Jr.; Loving mother to Erika (McMurray) Alexander and Loving Mother in Law to Donald Alexander; Amazing Grandmother to Carlie Alexander, 3; Sister to Beverly (Dick) McDougal and Charles (Catherine) Boltwood. She is also survived by many friends who became like family members. The family will receive friends and family for visitation at Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home at 2125 12 Mile Road in Berkley, MIchigan on Tuesday from 7-9 and Wednesday from 2-9 pm. The service will be at the funeral home on Thursday 11 am with graveside service at Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley, Michigan.
