I moved to Des Plaines IL just before our junior year in high school. I graduated from Maine West High School, and am crashing the Southfield High School 50th reunion party!

I married a year after graduation, but the marriage lasted only a few years. I have been married to Brian Sharon for 44 years now. We have 5 children, 2 boys and 3 girls, and soon-to-be 12 grandchildren. We lived in Michigan, Wisconsin (20 years), and now in Utah since 1995.

I worked as a computer programmer and systems analyst prior to having a family and again in later years. Since moving to Utah, I have worked as a Realtor and now just have my own business.

When I lived in WI, I earned my Associates in Arts and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin at age 50!

I have always loved music, theater and film, and have had the opportunity to be in all three. I also direct and produce plays for our city Arts Council.

To further prove I'm a late bloomer, I share the following:

It's never too late! I have always loved to write, but a few years ago, I realized that I was able to write songs. (Long story - couldn't find anyone else to do it for me.) I have since written many, and had them arranged by a professional pianist. My first CD called "Amaliah's Visit" will be marketed this year. It is a Christmas narrative with songs, about a visit from an angel, Amaliah, who introduces Elisabeth, Mary of Nazareth, the Innkeeper's Wife, and the Shepherd's Wife, who each tell their unique story and song about the birth of the Savior. The concluding song is entitled, "Perhaps You Were an Angel." I'd love to sell enough to make my investment back, so keep it in mind as a great Christmas present for all your friends and family!!! ;o) The website www.AmaliahsVisit.com should be set up in August.

Comment: I thought I had done this bio already.  Well, thanks to Cheryl Commons, I realized I was "missing in action"--just as I will unfortunately be at our gala Reunion.

So, the next best thing has been to use this website and the email relationships it has spawned for me to re-connect with classmates and experience all that has gone into making the event possible.  Thanks to all of you who have given to the cause.

As I said in an earlier post on this site, I'm sad to miss y'all (as they say in NC).  Unfortunately, too much has happened and is and will happen thru the rest of this year to permit me to feasibly attend.  As I said to Harry, I'll plan to attend our 55th or 60th with my new hip (and any no. of other re-manufactured or repaired body parts).

So what have I been up to?  My life really blossomed in my 3 years at MSU (Hi, Jim Kohl), where I also met my wife (a CMU Ed. grad) of now 45 years at the Coral Gables where I finished the last of my "bass guitar" days.  I then left the area for good in 1967, with my new wife, to finish grad school--in Psychology, at U. of Houston--and bring two sons into the world.

My first job opportunity took me to Chapel Hill NC--a state unfamiliar to us, but which has been good to us for some 42 years now.  Both us had fulfilling 32 yr. careers in public education--my wife as an Early Elem. teacher in a couple different school systems, and me as a faculty member, school psychologist, and finally a section chief in the NC Dept. of Public Ed.  Along the way, we raised 2 sons: Single Scott lives outside of Nashville TN and does a variety of computer-related work, and Eric works for Fairway Outdoor Advertising out of Greensboro NC.  He and his lovely wife, Suzanne, parent our two grandsons, who are about to begin 1st and 4th grade already (What markers for how time is flying, right?).

I officially retired in 2003, but feel like I'm busier than ever. I've worked for my "new" (we moved alot) neighborhood HOA and my county Bd. of Elections as a precinct Judge. Plus, like all of us, I've put in plenty of time supporting my kids and aging parents, who are now diseased.  A major relief was recently selling my parent's house in Farmington Hills after a year and a half of major fix-ups & marketing.  I'm also quite involved in maintaining the first (2004) scratch-built home we've ever owned, and our 2-3 cars (Can't take the "Detroit" out of this boy!).

After finishing a couple of trips that we planned many mos. ago, I plan some fix-up and maintenance on myself, as I plan to have my left hip replaced in the coming weeks. Fortunately, the many fine resources I have to call on, the confidence of a successfully navigating a couple of other recent surgeries, and going into the procedure in good shape should get me thru just fine.  Then, I can get on with my usual active lifestyle that I've had to gradually compromise for the last few years.

In short, I'm grateful for the blessed and fulfilling life I've had, and plan to live a lot more of it.  That's why I look forward to attending our next class Reunion.  So, while I wish you a great time, please leave the reunion venues in a dignified state so that they might have us back for the next time.  And PLEASE FEEL FREE TO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH AND VISIT ME/US at any time.

We have been retired for 13 years now and it just gets better every day. So much to do that working seemed like a time saving function. Everything was much more organized then...where and when to do this and that! Our children are scattered from California to Georgia to right here in Michigan. We love to play golf, tennis (not very good at it, but try), pickle ball (new game this year), cards of most any type and travel. I am very involved with quilting and some knitting and I love to cook and try different recipes on unsuspecting guests. We live right on the golf course and have very little, if any, yard maintenance with our natural looking area.

Tom (Class of 1961) and I recently celebrated 48 years—Life is Good.   When we got married, Tom had completed two years at Western Michigan University and I completed one year at Michigan State. Without school loans or parental financial support, Tom managed to graduate from WMU and worked as an engineer for Ford Motor. I completed one more year at Eastern Michigan and had two boys. When Jeff was 10 days old we moved to Arizona so Tom could complete his master’s degree at Arizona State University  and I finally completed my bachelors and master’s degree. I taught business education and computer software  for fifteen years at a Glendale AZ high school and Maricopa Community College and another 10 years at Central Arizona College in Casa Grande, AZ.
During the summers, we trailered sailboats to the California coast, Arizona lakes and Lake Tahoe.   When we retired we finally pursued our lifetime goal of cruising on a sailboat. Aboard a 42’ cutter we traveled the coast of California, spent several years in Mexico, sailed the forgotten middle, traversed the Panama Canal, and cruised several years in the western Caribbean. We sold our Sweet Obsession and bought a catamaran (Double Sweet) and sailed several years in the Bahamas and the Intercostal seaway.
Beginning in 2003 our sons finally decided to have children so we sold the boat and moved back to Arizona. We opened a hair salon for our oldest son right when the economy went into a recession, but I was able to apply the entrepreneur skills I taught. We have survived the last five years and Michael will finally own the business at the beginning of 2013, and we will again retire. Jeff, a teacher, has taken his family to Hong Kong so we can feel the seas calling us again.

I met Dom at CMU during freshman year. When I graduated in June 1966, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Physical Education & Recreation and a minor in Psychology, I joined Dom in Amarillo, Texas where he was finishing his Air Force Tech School and we were married there in June. From Amarillo we moved to Knob Noster, Missouri and were stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base. I taught Physical Education for the Knob Noster Schools and went to Central Missouri State University nights and summer to receive my Master’s Degree in Counseling and Guidance. Dom finished his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration as well. We moved to Kansas City, Mo where I took a counseling position with the Fort Osage School District and Dom attended UMKC Law School until he started his career as a Special Agent U.S. Treasury. Upon returning to Southfield in 1972 I worked at the Southeast Oakland Vocational Education Center as Special Needs Counselor until I decided to be a stay at home mom when Ryan was born November 1975. We moved to Bloomfield Hills and Brandon joined us in February 1979. Once the boys were in school I returned to work and earned an Early Childhood Degree at Oakland University and taught preschool for the Bloomfield Hills Schools. When both boys graduated from high school I transferred to the high schools to become the “In-School-Suspension Supervisor” for Andover and Lahser High.  Dom retired as a Fed to take an investigative position with the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office until he retired in 2008.  I threw the towel in and retired in July 2010. Brandon earned his Degree in Advertising and Communications at MSU and is still pursuing the perfect job. Ryan is an Emergency Medicine Doctor and works in the ER in Madison, Wisconsin. Neither of the boys is married and no grandchildren are on the horizon at the moment.

After graduating from Southfield High, I enrolled at Lawrence Institute of Technology (now Lawrence Technological University) in Southfield.  I later transferred to the University of Michigan to complete my BS degree in Electrical Engineering.

In 1967, I joined the Ford Motor Company and spent my career in engineering management positions. In 1973, I received an MS in Mechanical Engineering by attending UM – Dearborn night classes.

Also in 1973, I married Mary Ann Cannon, who taught me a great deal about the Italian culture.  She eventually gave up her public teaching position to raise our two sons, Carey and Randy.  Her love, loyalty, dedication and determination was beyond admirable.   We survived the years of minivans, kids’ sports, Chuckie Cheese ultimate noise level, PTA meetings, home upgrades, driver education, high school graduations, college graduations, marriage of older son, becoming grandparents to Jacob and Kylie, and reaching middle-old age.

But we did not survive cancer.  Mary Ann died in December 2009 after a valiant battle with breast cancer. I loved her so.  I was devastated.

But fate dealt some new cards. I met Catherine Palazzolo at church.  She sure wasn’t looking for anyone like me, and I wasn’t interested in meeting anyone. But somehow our relationship grew to respect, to caring, and then to, yep, to love.

I am now retired from Ford.  Catherine works very hard for Covenant House Michigan, a non-profit that cares for homeless youths beyond the foster care system.  After 67 years, the elusive “pursuit of happiness” is finally paying off.
